This is a Scala programming event. Some programming knowledge expected, but you don't yet know Scala.
Click here for more information about class levels in this course!
This workshop is intended for anyone who identifies as belonging to a group that is underrepresented in tech.
In this workshop, we'll take you through the basics of functional programming in Scala, a powerful language that has uses in everything from web applications to data science to large-scale distributed systems. By the end of the day, you'll have built some fun projects and have a basic understanding of functional programming.
To attend this event, you should have at least some familiarity with another programming language (like Ruby, Python, or Javascript). Students will be separated into different classes based on the experience level they choose when signing up. If you are completely new to programming, look out for a future ScalaBridge event when we hope to offer more-introductory workshops.
Marchex are graciously providing the venue. Underscore is helping to organise the event and supplying a teacher. Maana, and Simple are providing funds.
Marchex's HQ is located in downtown Seattle and is easily accessible by public transport. If you wish to drive there are many parking lots nearby.
We're hoping to arrange sponsorship for food and drink.
We'll look to provide childcare onsite if there is demand. Please let us know if this is of interest to you and we can discuss details.
After the workshop we'll go to Tap House Grill to talk and grab something to eat and/or drink. You're welcome to come to this even if you didn't make it to the event!
